Penang petty traders, hawkers to receive cash aid [NSTTV]

GEORGE TOWN: Over 4,000 licensed petty traders and hawkers on the island will receive a RM500 cash aid from the state government under Penang Peka 2.0 aid package.

Penang Island City Council (MBPP) mayor Datuk Yew Tung Seang said 1,950 licensed petty traders and 2,673 hawkers were eligible for the aid.

"We urge them to furnish their details, including bank account numbers, for us to transfer the funds. Closing date for submission of the details is June 15," he told a Press conference at Komtar here today.

Eligible recipients may send in their details through email at bantuancovid19@mbpp.gov.my or send a WhatsApp message to 019-471 1179 or 016-468 4969.

Details may also be sent directly to the MBPP licensing office at Dewan Bandaraya, Jalan Padang Kota.

"We hope the aid will give much-needed assistance to the affected traders and hawkers during the Covid-19 pandemic," Yew said.

The aid is part of RM76 million Peka Penang 2.0 announced by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow earlier this month.

Other incentives included a RM500 one-off aid to some 3,103 hawkers trading inside hawker complexes or shoplots belonging to both local councils and a RM500 one-off aid to bus and van drivers, rental car and limousine drivers as well as watercraft operators in Batu Ferringhi.

An RM500-assistance had also been allocated to some 645 kindergarten and childcare centres registered with the Welfare Department and kindergartens registered with the Education Department.
