Penang announces half-month bonus, RM1,000 special aid payout for civil servants

GEORGE TOWN: Penang today announced a half-month salary or a minimum RM1,000 special financial aid to some 3,867 civil servants in the state in appreciation of their services.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who announced the good news at the end of his nearly two hour-long 2024 Budget speech during the state legislative assembly sitting here, said it would cost the state government some RM6.045 million.

He said the payment would be made in December.

"We are grateful that Penang has a civil service team which is dedicated, committed and of integrity.

"In appreciation of them, I proposed a half-month salary or a minimum RM1,000 special financial aid to some 3,867 civil servants in the state, which will have a financial implication of RM6.045 million," he said.

Besides that, Chow also announced RM300 to some Kafa supervisors and teachers, Sekolah Rendah Agama Rakyat teachers, Sekolah Menengah Agama Rakyat teachers and teachers and staff of Chinese private schools.

He also announced RM300 for tahfiz, pondok and Tardis teachers.

"It will cost the state government a further RM1.005 million, which will also be paid out next month," he added.

Chow said, in total, it would have a RM7,05 million financial implication to the state.
