Covid-19: 60 new cases, 33 discharged, no deaths

PUTRAJAYA: Sixty new Covid-19 positive cases were recorded as of 12 noon today, of which 53 were via local transmissions involving 44 foreigners.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 27 foreigners with the coronavirus were detected at the Semenyih Immigration Detention Depot (DTI) and six new cases were linked to the new cluster at the Sepang DTI.

"No new deaths were reported to the National Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre. To date, nine Covid-19 patients are being treated at the Intensive Care Unit, of whom four require ventilation assistance," he said in a statement today.

He added that of the 60 positive cases, seven were found to be imported cases, bringing the cumulative figure to 7,245. Of the number,1,185 were active cases.

A total of 33 patients had recovered and were discharged from the hospital today, making the total individuals given the greenlight to return home at 5,945 (82.1 per cent of total cases).

Dr Noor Hisham, in wishing Malaysians and the dedicated frontliners Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri, reiterated his stance that the practice of visiting family, relatives and friends remains barred amid the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

He commended Malaysians who had celebrated Ramadan differently by adapting to the new norms and added that such practice must continue to minimise the Covid-19 infection.

Dr Noor Hisham urged the people to have a private Aidilfitri celebration with their respective families at home in light of the new norm with hopes that the Covid-19 transmission could be eliminated during or after the festive period.

"Our fight against the invisible virus is not over yet and this is one of our responsibilities to the community and the country. Although it is Hari Raya and a public holiday today, many frontliners are still on-duty.

"The people had before this depended on frontliners to stop the Covid-19 transmission. But now, frontliners are now hoping that the people will play a bigger role in the fight against Covid-19.

"In their prayers, contemplation, in their minds and hearts, they very much hope that Malaysians will discharge their social responsibility and self control to ensure that all of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are adhered to," he said.

The ministry also extended its appreciation to alls frontliners including its medical personnel and volunteers, police, Armed Forces, the People's Volunteer Corp (RELA), Civil Defence Force, Immigration Department and other agencies that are committed to giving their services during the celebration.
