Selangor cops use drones to monitor Raya celebrations under CMCO

KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor police used drones as part of house-to-house inspections on the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri to ensure Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) regulation compliance.

Selangor Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department chief Datuk Kumaran Karuppannan said a five-hour operation at Kampung Perempat, Klang Utara, showed that residents largely abided by the CMCO's standard operating procedures (SOPs).

He said celebrants observed, among others, the requirement to restrict Hari Raya visitors to 20 people per house.

"The operation was held from 3pm to 8pm over a 6km radius involving 290 houses.

"By using drones, we managed to identify 11 houses with an unusual numbers of cars.

"After surveillance, we conducted house-to-house visits at the identified houses. Inspections showed that the residents had complied with the 20 guest per house SOP.

"We also checked on their vehicles and found none were from other states," he said in a statement.

Kumaran said during the operation, police also advised residents to continue following the SOPs, particularly social distancing, using masks and maintaining good personal hygiene.

During the operation, police also advised them against playing firecrackers.

He added that residents can inform police of any case of individuals flouting CMCO rules.
