Covid-19: Negri Sembilan records highest cases after new infections in Pedas cluster

PUTRAJAYA: Negri Sembilan recorded 59 new Covid-19 cases today, the highest among the states, according to the data released by the Health Ministry.

This was followed by Selangor (28, including four imported cases), Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur (10, including three imported cases), Johor (3), Sabah (2) and Pahang (1).

Other states and two other federal territories reported zero new Covid-19 cases today.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, in his daily press conference earlier, said Malaysia recorded 103 new Covid-19 cases today, taking the tally of infections in the country to 7,732.

There are currently 1,382 Covid-19 active cases in the country.

He said seven of the new cases were imported, where the patients contracted the virus while abroad, while the rest were local transmissions.

Of the 96 local transmission cases, Dr Noor Hisham said 84 cases were foreigners, of which 53 cases were detected in Pedas cluster and 24 from a cleaning company cluster.

"The surge in cases today involved mostly foreigners, including 53 detected from Pedas cluster and 24 Bangladeshis from a cleaning company. There are only 12 Malaysian cases reported today."

Dr Noor Hisham said that eight cases are being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), with two on ventilator support.

He said 66 patients made a full recovery and were discharged today, bringing the tally of recovered cases to 6,235, or 80.64 per cent of the cumulative cases.
