Mom killed in crash was pregnant with first girl

KUALA KANGSAR: Nurul Huda Ariffin who was killed along with her husband and son in an accident at KM74 of Jalan Ipoh - Gerik last night, was five months pregnant.

Her sister-in-law, Nazirah Hashim, 28, revealed this when met at the Kuala Kangsar Hospital's Forensic Unit, here, today.

She said her sister-in-law was due to deliver this October, and was happy to have found out she was carrying their first daughter.

"She was so happy when she broke the news to us. But I didn't expect that she would be gone this soon, together with her husband and son," she said.

Nurul Huda, 31; her husband, Abdul Hakim Hashim, 32 and their son, Adib Aidan, 2, were killed during the 10.30pm accident, while their eldest child, Ammar Aiman, 4, sustained injuries.

The family was on their way to visit Abdul Hakim's parents who live in Kampung Air Panas, Gerik from Manjung.

Nazirah said a day before the incident, her mother, Norliah Abas, 56, shared that she felt uneasy but at the time, had no idea why.

"My mom could feel something bad was going to happen but we did not know until we were informed that my brother and his family were involved in an accident.

"My father and (another) brother went to the hospital, and while on their way, they saw my brother's car and immediately knew he did not make it," she said.

Nazirah said upon arrival at the hospital, her father saw doctors performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on her brother and he was in critical condition.

"About three or four minutes later, the doctor informed my father that my brother did not make it. We have to accept this as God's will," she said.

Meanwhile, district police chief Assistant Commissioner Razali Ibrahim said the accident involved the family's Toyota Vios and a four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle.

"We believe that the (4WD), which was driven by a 33-year-old man, veered into the opposite lane and rammed into the victim's car head-on.

"The impact caused the Toyota Vios to spin before landing in a drain, pinning all the victims to their seats.

"Nurul Huda was pronounced dead at the scene, while her husband and younger son were pronounced dead while receiving treatment at the Kuala Kangsar Hospital," he said.

Razali said police arrested the 4WD driver, who sustained a knee injury, for further investigation, adding that he tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

"The suspect has no criminal record and has been remanded for four days until Tuesday," he said adding that the case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by dangerous driving.
