Flouting SOPs will mean end of the road for motorcycle convoys

KUALA LUMPUR: Motorcycle convoys will be banned in the country if riders fail to strictly adhere to Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) during the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO).

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said permission for convoys to be staged may be revoked to remind participating motorcyclists of the need to adhere to SOPs.

"(A recent) incident involving a convoy which violated SOPs in Pahang is considered an isolated case for now.

"However, if the same thing happens again, we will not hesitate to revoke permission.

"I just hope that it will be the first and last case," he said when asked about a group of motorcyclists traveling together who were caught by police flouting RMCO SOPs.

Meanwhile, Ismail, who is also Senior Defence Minister, was asked on who is tasked with monitoring school students on SOP compliance after school hours and outside of school compounds.

He said Form Five and Six students are able to exercise self-control and adhere to SOPs inside and outside of school.

This is among the reasons the government allowed students aged 17 and 18 to return to school, as they are mature enough to comply with SOPs.

"They are considered to be adults and should know how to look after themselves and are able to comply with SOPs inside and outside the school," he said.

It was reported that parents have voiced concerns about the safety of their children, as many students have been seen not complying with SOPs after school.
