KUALA LUMPUR: All 803 Malaysians who recently returned from abroad are observing mandatory home quarantine, said Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
He said this was confirmed by police checks on each returnee's home to ensure that they are abiding by Covid-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
All Malaysian returnees from abroad are required to undergo home quarantine after they are screened by the Health Ministry upon arrival at the country's airports, and are cleared of coronavirus infection.
"A total of 803 checks were carried out by police to ensure that home quarantine SOPs are being followed. Police found they have obeyed the SOPs," he said in a statement today.
Ismail had previously said the ministry and police are conducting periodic home inspections for those under quarantine.
Checks were also carried out to ensure that none of the returnees have tampered with their government-issued quarantine wristbands.
Yesterday, the Senior Defence Minister said that 771 Malaysians returned via the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and klia2 from Singapore, Indonesia, United Arab Emirates, Taiwan, Thailand, Qatar, Australia and South Korea.
Of the number, he said 770 were told to undergo home quarantine, while one was sent to hospital.
Ismail added that from June 10 until yesterday, the ministry screened 11,049 people upon arrival at KLIA, of which 48 were found to be Covid-19 positive and taken to hospital for treatment.
