PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia Airlines is offering a 20 per cent discount on its domestic flight tickets for students, teachers, and lecturers to help ease their travel expenses.
Senior Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob in announcing the good news said the discount for teachers and lecturers was applicable for online bookings made from July 9 to Aug 10 for flights between July 10 and Nov 30.
The discount is available with online booking code promos that would be announced by the Education Ministry and Higher Education Ministry, he said.
Meanwhile, a 20 per cent discount is also offered to students through Malaysia Airlines' MH Explorer programme by becoming a member via its website until Nov 30 or expiry date of membership, subjected to terms and conditions.
"As I have previously mentioned, the special ministers' meeting (on the implementation of Movement Control Order) had asked the Malaysian Aviation Commission to present the matter to the committee.
"The government has suggested that special prices for air tickets are offered to students, teachers and lecturers to return to their workplace and higher education institutions, as well as teachers working in Sabah and Sarawak to travel from peninsula; and vice versa. The Aviation Commission was asked to discuss this with the airlines," he told a press conference today.
Following this, Ismail Sabri said he had attended a meeting with Malaysia Airlines Bhd's (MAB) chief executive officer Captain Izham Ismail to discuss the matter.
He thanked MAB for agreeing to offer discounts to the group and expressed hope that other airlines would follow suit.
