22 nabbed nationwide for flouting RMCO on Monday [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 22 people nationwide were arrested and fined on Monday for flouting the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO).

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said among the offences committed were breaching social distancing norms (six individuals) and activities that were against standard operating procedure (SOP) (16 individuals).

In addition, 3,821 supermarkets, 5,545 restaurants, 1,954 hawker stalls, 1,326 factories and 2,787 markets were inspected by the authorities. Up to 3,783 houses of worship and 1,478 recreational areas were also inspected on Monday.

"Through the Compliance Operation Task Force, the police conducted 63,616 checks to monitor SOP and RMCO compliance yesterday," he told a press conference today.

On the country's border control, Ismail Sabri, who is also Senior Defence Minister, said between May 1 and July 13, a total of 1,545 illegal immigrants, 252 tekongs and 110 smugglers were nabbed by authorities through Op Benteng.

He said 51 boats as well as 153 vehicles were also seized by the authorities.

"Op Benteng also prevented 254 illegal immigrants, 9 tekong and 37 boats from entering the country.

"The police also set up 66 Op Benteng roadblocks and inspected 31,330 vehicles to prevent illegal immigrants from entering the country.

"From the roadblocks, five foreign nationals were arrested for violating immigration laws," he added.
