Covid-19 in Kulim: Stop circulating fake news

KUALA LUMPUR: The confirmed Covid-19 patient in Kulim has been identified as part of the Sivagangga Cluster.

The patient was a close contact to one of the patrons of Restoran Nasi Kandar Salleh in Napoh, where the first case of the cluster erupted.

In a statement today, the Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah confirmed this, saying the patient, case-9,023, had fever and breathing issues on Aug 2 and sought treatment at the Taman Selasih Health Clinic.

The patient has been sent to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar for treatment.

Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham refuted the claims being made on social media with regard to the Covid-19 case in Kulim.

"We wish to inform of messages that have been circulating regarding this patient, and the places where the patient visited.

"We urge the public to stop circulating these messages as the facts are not accurate.

"We are actively doing contact tracing at the moment and we will inform the public of the latest updates from time to time," he said.

Since last night, Kulim folks were left puzzled over the authenticity of social media and WhatsApp messages on the places visited by the patient before he tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

This is the first case of Covid-19 in Kulim after it remained a green zone for quite some time, with the most recent period of no cases from July 21 until the present case- 9,023.
