Number of people breaching RMCO SOPs returns to double digit

KUALA LUMPUR: The number of people breaching the recovery movement control order (RMCO) standard operating procedures (SOP) has returned to double digit.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said police picked up 65 offenders from 52,294 inspections conducted nationwide yesterday.

He said of the total, 63 were slapped with compounds and two were remanded.

The offences were not wearing face mask (35); operating without permission (8); failure to observe physical distancing; leaving house without valid reason in Enhanced MCO (EMCO) areas (7), failing to provide tools/ record visitors' log (4); entering EMCO areas without valid reason (3) and failed to pay quarantine (1).

A total of 2,950 compliance teams led by the police had inspected 3,380 supermarkets, 4,200 restaurants, 1,236 hawker stalls, 992 factories, 3,436 banks and 670 government offices.

They also checked 926 land transport terminals; water transport terminals (204), and air transport terminals (149).

On Op Benteng, the senior defence minister said a total of 32 illegal immigrants, four smugglers and one boat skipper were rounded up in 91 roadblocks mounted by the police, armed forces and the Border Security Agency nationwide

Also seized was a boat and three land vehicles.

He said a total of 32,963 individuals had arrived at the country's international entry points between July 24 and Sept 22, in which 8,240 were still under the mandatory quarantine at 67 hotels and eight premises including public training institutes and private education institutes across the country.

Seventy-one of the returnees were taken to hospital for Covid-19 treatment.

These returnees were from 33 countries, namely, the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Singapore, Vietnam, Brunei, Laos, Qatar, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, India, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Japan, Turkey, South Korea, Iran, Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Timor Leste, Taiwan, China, United Kingdoms, Papua New Guinea, Egypt, Spain, Australia, New Zealand and the United States.

The Housing and Local Government Ministry yesterday carried out 17 sanitation operations at two red zone areas and seven yellow zones and green zones with seven operations in Sabah, Kedah (6), Penang (2), Pahang (1) and Melaka (1).
