Banners criticising govt, featuring profanity, appear briefly in Ipoh

IPOH: Police have opened enquiry papers (KEP) for a preliminary investigation into banners criticising the government, with the use of profanity, mounted at Stadium Perak and a pedestrian bridge in front of the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) here.

Images of the banners, featuring the phrase "F*** Politik 317 kes" and "Rakyat Jaga Rakyat, Menteri Jaga Poket" went viral on social media after a Facebook user posted it on the Ipoh-Ipoh Ajerr Group.

Police received a tip-off on the presence of the "F*** Politik 317 kes" banner at the pedestrian bridge at Jalan Raja Ashman Shah at 9pm yesterday.

"Policemen went to the scene, but the banner had been removed. However, they managed to find the banner in a dustbin behind the bus station near the pedestrian bridge," said district police chief Assistant Commissioner A. Asmadi Abdul Aziz.

On the second banner ('Rakyat Jaga Rakyat, Menteri Jaga Poket'), he said police received a report after it was posted on the Ipoh-Ipoh Ajer Group on Facebook.

"A police report was lodged by the public on the matter at 12.15am at the Sungai Senam police station.

"The banner was put up at the food court of Stadium Perak at Jalan Stadium here. Upon arrival, the police team found that the banner had also been removed.

"They conducted checks near the area but couldn't find it," he said, adding that both locations have no closed circuit television cameras (CCTVs), and there no witnesses to the incident.
