PM: Klang CMCO won't affect economic sector

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin says the implementation of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) in Klang must not affect the economic sectors to minimise its impact on the people's livelihood.

Muhyiddin, who chaired the Special National Security Council (NSC) meeting on Covid-19 management via video conference at his residence this morning, said the meeting made several key decisions pertaining to the Covid-19 situation in Klang, Sabah and Kedah prison.

"The meeting, also attended by the Selangor Menteri Besar (Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari) agreed to go into details (of the CMCO implementation) in terms of the localities concerned since Klang is quite a large district.

"This (meeting) also took into account information provided by the Selangor State Health Department that only certain localities were affected by the Covid-19 transmission.

"I had emphasised that the economic and industrial activities in the area including trade activities in Port Klang should not to be affected. The implementation of the CMCO in the area must not affect the recovering economic sector, especially people's employment and income," he wrote on his official Facebook page.

Muhyiddin said Senior Minister cum International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali had reported that industry players were set to continue operating by implementing strict compliance to the SOP to curb the spread of the pandemic.

Meanwhile, he said, the transmission of Covid-19 cases in prisons was discussed in detail where it was decided that stricter SOPs would be implemented.

This, he said, includes mandating Covid-19 screening via 'swab' tests on all new inmates and placing them in separate places gazetted as 'temporary prisons' until the test results are obtained.

"If the test results return Covid-19 positive, the prisoners will be sent directly to the hospital while those who are negative will remain quarantined in a 'temporary prison' for 14 days before being transferred to a permanent prison.

"If symptoms occur, they will also be sent to the hospital for treatment even if they test negative.

"To prevent infection among prisoners under remand, the meeting decided that the mention of the case in court should be conducted online."

On the Covid-19 situation in Sabah, especially in the east coast area, Muhyiddin said human resource capacity, equipment and logistics would be improved, including in hospitals.

He said the Royal Malaysian Air Force was prepared to meet the logistical needs of the Health Ministry in the state.

"I believe the frontline staff including in agencies under the Health Ministry, Defence Ministry, Home Ministry, Prime Minister's Department and others will use all their expertise and previous experiences to flatten the Covid-19 curve.

"More importantly, we must all be united in facing this challenging moment. Insya-Allah," he added.
