Separated since MCO, Msian man waves to family in JB for brief reunion [NSTTV]

JOHOR BARU: A Malaysian family split apart since the Movement Control Order (MCO) came into place in March this year had a brief 'reunion' of sorts over the weekend.

Mohd Izwan Sarip, from Johor but works in Singapore, has been separated from his wife, Liana Idris, and their two children since the MCO was enforced.

On Sunday, he and his wife devised a plan where they would meet across the Straits of Johor. Their 'reunion' was captured on video.

The video, which has since gained widespread attention on social media, showed Izwan standing at the edge of Woodlands Waterfront Park in Singapore overlooking Johor Baru and holding a phone while video-calling his family.

He had asked his wife to bring their children to the sea area which separated both countries so he could see them from afar.

In the video, Izwan was heard asking where Liana and the children were. Liana then replied, and described what she was wearing so that he could spot her.

He then waved to her while his children were heard saying hello to their father via the video call.

In September, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said the Malaysia-Singapore border will open depending on the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) situation which will be implemented until the end of this year.

He said the ministry will monitor the development of the Covid-19 cases throughout the period before announcing any opening of borders.
