KUALA LUMPUR: It was an emotional reunion for Nurul Ain Haron with her family members as she arrived with her Palestinian husband after being stranded in Gaza, Palestine ever since war broke out in the region over the past month.

Nurul Ain was seen huddled with her family at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) special lounge upon her arrival.

Haron Hamim, 65, spoke to the media as the flight landed, and said that he was glad to finally be able to meet his daughter after almost a year.

He said the family was proud of his daughter's charity work in Gaza despite the danger.

"At first, like others, we are also terrified especially with the word genocide being mentioned, maybe no one will be spared.

"But when we saw her charity work, it was heartwarming. She is strong.

"So for us here, we feel that we too need to be strong for her so that she will be motivated to continue her effort.

"This is also a type of jihad, helping those in need. We are proud of her," he said when met outside the KLIA Terminal 1 special lounge here today.

He thanked the Malaysian government, especially Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who took the initiative to ensure that both her daughter and son-in-law were safe throughout the evacuation process.

Nurul Ain and her Palestinian husband, Mohamed A. M. Shaat landed at KLIA Terminal 1 at 8.55pm from Doha.

They were safely evacuated from the Gaza conflict zone on Nov 12 through the Rafah border crossing with the help of the Malaysian ambassador to Cairo.

Also present to welcome the couple was Foreign Affairs Ministry secretary general Datuk Seri Amran Mohamed Zin.
