37 students, teachers of Dungun school enter quarantine

DUNGUN: A total of 28 students and nine teachers at Sekolah Menengah Agama Sultan Ismail (SMASID) in Dungun underwent Covid-19 screening today after a Form One student of the school tested positive recently.

The school's Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG) deputy chairman Rusdi Muda said the test, conducted by Health Ministry personnel, began at 8.30am and ended three hours later.

"All students and teachers involved were sent to the Darul Iman Training Centre (DITC) in Kemaman by bus.

"All of them will undergo quarantine at the DITC for 14 days.

"We ask for prayers from all for the students and teachers at the school for them to be safe from Covid-19."

"We are also thankful to the Health Ministry personnel who conducted the tests for the students and teachers at this school," he said.

Yesterday, Terengganu Education Department director Salim Ab Ghani ordered SMASID to be closed for eight days until Oct 15.

The student tested positive for the virus on Oct 7, infected by one of his family members who had attended a wedding in Kampung Bemban, Dungun recently.

Dungun Fire and Rescue Department chief Mohd Aidil Khairim Abdul Wahab, meanwhile, said sanitation operations at the school have been completed.
