PM thanks China on making Malaysia a priority for Covid-19 vaccine

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today had a video conference with China's Foreign Affairs Minister Wang Yi to discuss bilateral ties between the two countries.

Muhyiddin, who is currently observing a 14-day self isolation at his residence, said China had been the most important and largest trading partner for Malaysia since 2009.

He said in 2019, the trade value from China had increased 2.0 per cent to RM315.19 billion whereas the trade value for January to July this year alone had increased by 0.1 per cent hitting RM178.60 billion.

"Malaysia always welcomes more investments from China," he said in a Facebook post.

Muhyiddin also welcomed the bilateral memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the post Covid-19 era with China which would be signed by both the Foreign Affairs Ministers of both countries soon.

Both the ministers will also co-chair a high-level committee on post Covid-19 cooperation between Malaysia and China, the prime minister said.

The high-level committee will oversee the implementation of all understandings concluded within the framework of the MoU.

"As a Prime Minister, I am pleased and I thank China for making Malaysia a priority recipient of its vaccine. I am also thanking Your Excellency Wang Yi for agreeing to purchase 1.9 million tonnes of palm oil until 2023," he added.
