Catholic church mass attendee recovers from Covid-19, discharged

KUALA LUMPUR: The parishioner of a Roman Catholic church here who tested positive for Covid-19 last week, has been discharged after being treated at the Sungai Buloh Hospital.

The Kuala Lumpur Archdiocesan Crisis Management Task Force announced this yesterday, after it's Oct 14 disclosure.

It said that The Church of Sacred Heart, Jalan Peel, had been duly sanitised in compliance with directives issued by the public health authorities, and remains closed to the public during the Conditional Movement Control Order.

"As of today, we have not received any news of infection among parishioners of the Church of the Sacred Heart, Jalan Peel, or from other parishes of the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur," the task force said.

"Let us continue to be vigilant and cooperate with the public health authorities, as we pray for the speedy recovery of all infected persons, success of mitigation measures and the safety of all first responders."

Last week, it was reported that an attendee at the 9.15am Tamil Mass on Sept 25 at the Church of the Sacred Heart, Jalan Peel, had tested positive for Covid-19 on Oct 12 and was undergoing treatment in Sungai Buloh.

The task force had said that the patient was asymptomatic at that point in time and had attended mass before all public masses were suspended on Oct 7.

"The parish had also fully complied with the National Security Council's standard operating procedures and the Archdiocesan guidelines before, during and after the mass, to reduce the risk of infection."

The parish had also cooperated with the public health authorities in providing them with the necessary contact listing information together with details of the seating arrangement in the church.
