Klang Valley water cuts: Anger and frustration aplenty

KUALA LUMPUR: The latest unscheduled water cut has raised hackles among the people.

Freelance scriptwriter Farhana A. Kadir said she started to lose her patience having to deal with another round of water disruption.

"It has been happening frequently within a short period of time. My mother called and told me about the water cuts around 4pm today when I was at the office.

"Can you imagine, my house is in Klang, which has been classified as one of the Covid-19 red zones and our taps are dry.

"Thank God my mother and aunt are at home and they can store water while I am at work. What if this happens again and they are not home? It's a hassle," she told the New Straits Times today.

The 24-year-old said the authorities should ban all the factories that were operating near the water sources.

University student Harith Sabri, 22, was annoyed knowing that there would be no water supply at home.

"Since the government imposed another round of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO), we have been asked to stay at home. It is uncomfortable to be at home with dry taps, though."

Malaysian Water Association president Datuk Abdul Kadir Mohd Din reiterated the need to form a special committee to oversee the nation's water management.

"I've been saying over and over again, we need to have a special committee to oversee the whole management, comprising members who have no personal interest on the matter and no fear nor favour to anyone.

"We need the committee to have direct access to the government. If they find any discrepancy, the committee will report it accordingly," he said, adding that the committee should be an independent body.
