Construction resumes for abandoned SMK Langkon building project

KOTA KINABALU: SMK Langkon students will soon have a conducive learning environment as construction work on the school's abandoned building is finally taking place.

The secondary school, located in the Kota Marudu district, was supposed to have its own building but the construction project was delayed and eventually abandoned.

As such, SMK Langkon students have been forced to share classrooms with the pupils of SK Langkon.

Thanking the Ministry of Education's prompt action, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili, who is in charge of Sabah and Sarawak affairs, said the latest development would definitely boost the education system in the district.

"I raised this matter with the Senior Education Minister (Dr Radzi Jidin), prompting him to visit the primary school and the abandoned secondary school site (on Sept 13)," he said in a press statement today.

"We are grateful that works on the abandoned site resumed this month and the school children will no longer have to share their classrooms.

"They will soon have a conducive and comfortable learning environment," said Ongkili, who is also the Kota Marudu Member of Parliament.

Ongkili added that Radzi has given his assurance that he would be personally monitor the progress of the project.

Yesterday, Radzi, on his official Facebook page, said that an appointed contractor had gone to the site to complete the construction.

"The ministry has worked hard to ensure the construction can be expedited.

"This is definitely good news for the students of SMK Langkon because after this they will be able to study in a more comfortable environment," he said.
