Five new Covid-19 clusters emerge, five end

KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry has detected five new Covid-19 clusters in the country.

They are the Avenue and Kejora clusters from Sabah; Kasah cluster in Kuala Lumpur; Summer cluster in Penang; as well as the Mengketil cluster in Kelantan and Terengganu.

The Avenue cluster in Penampang was detected from a construction site supervisor who tested positive on Nov 8.

"As of yesterday, a total of 246 individuals have been screened with 110 testing positive," said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement today.

One person exhibiting symptoms tested positive on Nov 9 in Kota Kinabalu, leading to the emergence of the Kejora cluster. Nine people have so far tested positive.

The Kasah cluster in Kuala Lumpur, meanwhile, was detected following screening of staff from a security company today. Nineteen people, all foreigners, tested positive with 51 others awaiting results.

Dr Noor Hisham said the Summer cluster in Penang emerged after a person who displayed symptoms tested positive on Nov 10.

"Close contact screening unearthed 10 more Covid-19 cases including three today, with four more people awaiting results," he said.

The Mengketil cluster was detected at Kota Baru, Machang and Tanah Merah in Kelantan, and Besut in Terengganu.

The cluster emerged from a person who had suffered from Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) on Nov 13 and was admitted to the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital.

Close contact tracing turned up 23 more Covid-19 cases with 22 people awaiting results.

Dr Noor Hisham also announced the end of five clusters today, including three from Sabah.

The Bangau-Bangau cluster from Semporna and Tawau had contributed to 432 cases with four deaths from 1,010 people tested.

The Buang Sayang cluster from Sipitang, Pitas, and Putatan in Sabah; Titiwangsa in Kuala Lumpur; as well as Seremban and Rembau in Negri Sembilan had registered 17 cases.

The Kau Siang cluster from Tawau had 16 cases.

As for the remaining two clusters – the Olive cluster from Hulu Langat had 18 cases while the Tasik cluster from Petaling, Hulu Langat, Klang and Gombak in Selangor; and Miri from Sarawak contributed to 24 positive cases.
