Selangor NSC mulling measures to curb state's Covid-19 case surge

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor National Security Council (NSC) will be weighing measures to address the sharp increase in Covid-19 cases in the state in recent days.

As of noon yesterday, the state recorded 603 new cases, the highest-ever daily tally after recording 407 cases last Thursday, and 402 cases two days ago.

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the state's Teratai cluster is the biggest contributor to the caseload, with 504 cases alone yesterday.

"Selangor also recorded 178 patients who were discharged from hospital.

"Today, NSC Selangor will be discussing ways to overcome the spike in new cases," he said via Twitter, yesterday.

According to the Selangor Task Force For Covid-19's (STFC) Facebook page, 536 cases recorded in the state yesterday are from existing clusters.

Apart from 504 cases from the Teratai cluster, 27 more are from close contacts, 39 from other screenings, and one was an imported case.

There are 2,634 active cases in Selangor out of a total 9,752 reported Covid-19 infections.

Klang continues to record the highest number of active cases with 1,646, followed by Hulu Langat (418); Petaling (268); Sepang (129); Kuala Langat (81); Gombak (66); Hulu Selangor (9); Kuala Selangor (8), while Sabak Bernam maintains its green zone status with zero active cases.
