Five GOF posts inundated by flood waters

KOTA BARU: Sungai Golok which broke its bank on Friday, following heavy rain led to five General Operations Force (GOF) posts being inundated by flood waters.

The five border posts located in Rantau Panjang and Pasir Mas, saw water rising between 0.2m and 0.5m.

GOF Eighth Battalion commander Superintendent Muhammad Shamsuddin said the five posts are located at Saripah, Salleh Berek, Mek Gombak, Pulau and Wakaf Zink.

Following this, he said more than 20 GOF personnel were ordered to temporarily move to several nearby tactical bases.

"Heavy rain in the past few days caused the river to breach the danger level yesterday evening and inundated the posts.

"For their safety, l ordered them to move to our company's tactical bases in Kuala Jambu and Jeram Perdah," he said in a statement.

He said the five were among 17 GOF posts located along the border areas.

"The incident will not hamper the spirit of the GOF members who are now carrying out their duties in Ops Benteng.

"They will resume their work as usual and will return to the posts once the situation improves," he added.
