No more playing with 'air bah'

RANTAU PANJANG: It is normal for locals especially children living in low-lying areas here to play in the water during floods or "bah" (Kelantanese dialect for flood).

However from now on, the parents or guardians of these children must think twice before allowing their children to do so or run the risk of being compounded by the authorities.

Pasir Mas district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Roy Suhaimi Sarif said the move to issue compounds was taken with the safety of the people especially children, in mind.

"It has been a tradition for locals particularly children to play with floodwaters during the rainy season.

"For their safety as well as to break the chain of Covid-19 infection in the state, l have directed my officers to warn the public against playing in floodwaters.

"If they do not want to listen to the warning, we will not hesitate to slap them with a RM1,000 compound for flouting Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP)," he said.

Mohamad Roy said he already discussed the matter with local authorities including the Pasir Mas district officer recently adding that police personnel would be monitoring areas where people would normally play in floodwaters.
