MBSP staff tests positive for Covid-19

SEBERANG PRAI: Several departments in Menara MBSP and Landscape Department in Kampung Jawa, here, have been closed for sanitisation after a Seberang Prai City Council (MBSP) employee was confirmed positive of Covid-19 yesterday.

MBSP Mayor Datuk Rozali Mohamud said the employee was admitted to hospital on Tuesday and confirmed to have contracted the virus yesterday.

"As a precautionary measure, the management has identified all closed contacts of the said employee, and have ordered them to work from home.

"Similarly, several departments in the MBSP headquarters as well as the Landscape Department in Kampung Jawa have been closed for a thorough sanitisation exercise," he said today.

Rozali said between Nov 18 and yesterday, the said employee had only attended work physically once on Nov 25 at the MBSP headquarters.

Rozali also advised ratepayers in Seberang Prai not to worry and that MBSP's centralised counter operation was still operating as usual.

"However, we advise the public to conduct any transactions online. There are about 100 online services at the MBSP Cyber Counter website at www.mbsp.gov.my.

"MBSP will assist with an info-graphic and steps to use the Cyber Counter services, especially online payment services (such as assessment, compounds, and premises rental and licence payment) as well as applications for new licence.

"MBSP will also come out with steps for applications for planning permission, building plans and other services offered by its one-stop centre," he said, adding the cooperation from everyone was vital.

He also advised the people to follow MBSP's Facebook page and local media for the latest update.

"There is no reason for the people of Seberang Prai to panic. Everything is under control and the standard operating procedure (SOP) is being complied with," he added.
