EMCO at Top Glove's Klang hostel ends

KUALA LUMPUR: The Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) imposed at Top Glove Corp Bhd's workers' hostel in Klang, Selangor has been lifted today.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob in a statement said the decision to end the EMCO at the workers' hostel was made following the decrease in the number of Covid-19 positive cases.

He said there are also no more swab samples from the locale which are awaiting results.

"The government imposed EMCO at the Top Glove Corp Bhd's workers' hostel on Nov 17 and extended it again until Dec 14.

"The Health Ministry has conducted 5,805 screenings, with the total cumulative positive cases logging in at 4,305.

"Based on the ministry's advice and risk assessment, the special National Security Council (NSC) meeting today agreed to end EMCO at the workers' hostel on Dec 14," he said.

Ismail Sabri said all individuals who tested negative have also been placed under the Home Surveillance Order (HSO) for the Covid-19 incubation period.

He also added that of the 28 Top Glove factories closed previously, 14 factories have been given the green light to operate again after all the workers were screened and the factories sanitised.

"The remaining 14 factories will be reopened in stages.

"The Top Glove management has also been instructed to adhere to all directives on managing the Covid-19 transmission among its workers after the EMCO is ended," he said.

The NSC also decided to end the EMCO imposed at the temporary detention centre (PTS) in Sibuga, Sabah since Dec 2 as scheduled tomorrow (Dec 15).

"As of Dec 11, the Health Ministry has conducted 1,062 screenings and 217 Covid-19 cases have been recorded.

"However, there are only 29 active Covid-19 cases involving prisoners and staff currently undergoing treatment at the detention centre," he said.

However, the EMCO at Kampung Desa Bajau and Kampung Dasar Baru in Lahad Datu, Sabah which was scheduled to end tomorrow (Dec 15) will be extended for another two weeks, until Dec 29.

"So far, the ministry has carried out 1,439 screenings and a total of 238 cases have been recorded in both localities.

"The ministry also confirmed that there are another 1,160 samples waiting for results and there is a risk for Covid-19 transmission to occur among residents due to the high number of active cases," he said.
