1,247 new Covid-19 cases today

KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry logged 1,247 new Covid-19 cases as of noon today.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this brought the total number of cases in the country to 101,565, where 18,576 are active cases.

Only two of the infections recorded today were imported cases.

"Selangor continues to record the highest number of new cases at 461 (37 per cent).

"Of the total, 309 cases (67 per cent) are from clusters and close contact screening," he said in a statement today.

Sabah recorded 225 cases (18 per cent), while Johor recorded 205 cases (16.4 per cent).

Dr Noor Hisham said 16.9 per cent (211 cases) of the daily tally were linked to clusters in lockups, immigration detention centres, and prisons.

These include the Tembok Gajah (113 cases), Jalan Harapan Prison (86 cases), Tembok (eight cases), and Pompod (four cases) clusters.

Meanwhile, 1,441 people have been discharged, bringing the number of recoveries to 82,540 cases (81.3 per cent).

Three more deaths were recorded, with the total number of deaths has now increased to 449.
