East Coast Expressway between Gambang, Sri Jaya cut off by floodwaters

KUANTAN: The East Coast Expressway (LPT1) on both bounds, between Gambang and Sri Jaya, has been closed to all vehicles due to a flooded stretch at Km198.

State Basic Amenities, Public Delivery System and Innovations Committee chairman Datuk Seri Norol Azali Sulaiman said the affected stretch was inundated at about 8.40am today.

"The section is completely impassable to east and west bound traffic, between Gambang and Sri Jaya. Water along the road shoulder has spilled onto the dual-carriageway," he said.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM), in a Facebook posting, said the emergency, slow and fast lanes at Km198 of the LPT1 are also impassable due to the flooding.

Heavy rain across the state since Thursday has triggered floods in Maran and Rompin, forcing those living in low-lying areas to be evacuated.
