434 individuals nabbed for flouting MCO SOP

KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested 434 individuals for flouting standard operating procedures (SOPs) under the Movement Control Order (MCO) yesterday.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob in a statement said of the total, 422 were slapped with compounds, while another 12 were remanded.

The offences were activities that made physical distancing difficult (153), activities at nightclubs (149), failure to provide equipment for registering entry of patrons (68), not wearing face masks (60) and other offences.

He said the police had also conducted 47,441 inspections nationwide.

Ismail Sabri said 2,468 compliance teams involving 10,837 personnel conducted checks at 3,614 supermarkets, 4,662 restaurants, 1,804 hawkers, 3,293 banks, 1,245 factories and 437 government offices, nationwide.

"Inspections were also carried out at 948 land terminals, 233 water transportation hubs and 72 air terminals", he said.

On Ops Benteng, he said the authorities detained 43 illegal immigrants and a boat skipper.

"Authorities also confiscated five vehicles yesterday through the 105 roadblocks mounted nationwide.

"A total 41 roadblocks were set up under Ops Penawar, a joint effort by police, Armed Forces, and Rela personnel.

"Under Ops Benteng, police mounted 55 roadblocks and nine others by the Malaysian Border Security Agency (AKSEM)," he said.

On the mandatory quarantine, Ismail Sabri said 96,924 individuals returned to the country since July 24.

They have been placed at 76 hotels and 16 public training institutes, and several private learning institutions across the country.

"A total 7,490 individuals are currently undergoing mandatory quarantine, while 540 others were sent to the hospital for treatment," he said, adding that 88,894 individuals have been discharged and allowed to go home.

The returnees had flown in from 36 countries.

Ismail Sabri said 27 sanitisation operations were conducted involving 13 at red zones, orange zone (4), yellow zone (3), and green zone (2) across 10 states yesterday.

The operations were conducted in Melaka, Sabah, Pulau Pinang, Johor, Kedah, Sarawak, Perak, Terengganu, Selangor, and Pahang.

"So far since March 30, a total of 13,267 sanitisation operations have taken place at 137 zones involving 14,804 premises.
