Workplace Covid-19 clusters dominate 11 new clusters

KUALA LUMPUR: Workplace Covid-19 cases continued to dominate as they comprised seven out of 11 clusters detected by the Health Ministry nationwide.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said four new clusters were detected in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur (2), Johor, Sabah, Pahang, Sarawak and Terengganu (1).

All new clusters reported in Selangor, namely the Jalan Playar cluster, Sri Suria cluster, Bukit Semenyih Construction Site cluster and Bukit Angkat cluster, were linked to the workplace.

He said cases from Jalan Playar cluster involved Petaling district was detected on Dec 11 after targeted screenings were conducted at a factory.

To date, 180 individuals have been screened whereby 68 cases tested positive.

Similarly, cases from Sri Suria cluster detected in the Petaling district began after the targeted screening was conducted at a factory today (Jan 5). Thus far, this cluster has 16 cases and 258 individuals had been tested.

The Bukit Semenyih Construction Site cluster in the Hulu Langat district was detected on Jan 3 following targeted screenings at a construction site.

Currently, 371 individuals screened and results of 17 cases came back positive.

He said Bukit Angkat cluster that involved Hulu Langat district has 17 confirmed cases to date.

Dr Noor Hisham explained that cases of this cluster were detected on Jan 1 after targeted screenings conducted at a company, adding that so far, 371 individuals had gone through the screenings.

Two clusters reported in Kuala Lumpur also originated from the workplace, they are the Jalan Desa Construction Site cluster and Jalan Raja cluster.

The Jalan Desa cluster was detected in the Lembah Pantai district and cases from this cluster were detected today (Jan 5) after targeted screenings were conducted at a construction site. This cluster now has 116 confirmed cases from 800 individuals who had been tested.

The Jalan Raja cluster which involved the Lembah Pantai, Cheras, Titiwangsa and Kepong districts was linked to a shopping centre.

"Cases of this cluster was detected positive starting Dec 19 after targeted screenings conducted at a shopping centre.

"To date, 125 individuals have been screened of which 25 cases were found positive," he said.

The Parit Jamil cluster is a workplace-linked cluster detected in Muar district, Johor. The index case, case-108,188, was found positive on Dec 29 via symptomatic individual screening.

To date, 612 individuals linked to this cluster were screened where 62 were confirmed positive.

"The Tombovo cluster involves Putatan district in Sabah. The index case, case- 117, 629, was reported positive on Jan 3 after the asymptomatic individual screening. Currently, 97 individuals were screened of which 18 cases were found positive.

"The Langit Selatan cluster involves Kuantan district in Pahang. The index case, case-112,707, was confirmed positive on Dec 31, also through symptomatic individual screening. As of today, 43 individuals were tested and nine were found positive," he said.

The Sayap cluster involved Miri district in Sarawak. The first case of the cluster, case-112,711 was detected positive on Dec 31 via asymptomatic individual screening. So far, 48 individuals had been screened and five were found positive.

The Mengkuang cluster was reported in Marang and Kuala Nerus districts in Terengganu. The index case, case-115,063, was detected positive on Jan 1 after the asymptomatic individual screening.

The cluster current has 10 positive cases after 150 individuals were screened.

Malaysia now has 242 active clusters.
