Saravanan: Employers must pay for Covid-19 screening tests for employees

KUALA LUMPUR: Employers must pay for all immunisation-related (vaccination) expenses, including Covid-19 screening tests for their employees, in accordance with Section 24J (f) Workers' Minimum Standards of Housing and Amenities Act 1990 (Act 446).

This was reaffirmed by Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri M. Saravanan in a statement today.

"This decision follows the government's directive based on the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342) which mandates all foreign workers to undergo Covid-19 screening and the employers are to bear the cost and charges for the tests," he said.

Saravanan added that the ministry would step up inspections at workplace to stem the spread of Covid-19 at workplaces.

"Starting Jan 11, a Covid-19 screening task force, comprising of the Peninsular Malaysia Labour Department, Social Security Organisation (Socso) and the Occupational Safety and Health Department will conduct special operations to check workplaces hiring foreign workers to raise awareness among employers to curb the transmission of infectious diseases," he said.
