Praises for MAEPS quarantine centre from ex-detainee

KUALA LUMPUR: Though there are those who do not fear the Covid-19 infection, they worry about being quarantined at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) as they do not know what to expect there.

To many, MAEPS is nothing more than a quarantine centre for foreigner workers.

However, AfifieChan, who was tested positive for Covid-19 and admitted there, said the situation was just the opposite.

He recently shared on Twitter, his experience of being quarantined at the centre which was not as bad as what he or others imagined it would be.

He also ran a question and answer (Q&A) on his Instagram account about his experiences at the centre from Jan 7.

He hoped by doing so would be able to spread some positivity and shed some light on the real situation in the centre.

Afifie said the centre was not scary as what people think and was clean and comfortable.

He said the condition inside was actually clean and comfortable and not scary at all.

"You can see for yourselves. The white cloth hanging on the bed is because the lights are on 24-hours and it is glaring," he posted.

On the condition of other necessities, such as the toilet, he said there were six toilets in the hall and each has between four to six cubicles.

"So far, no one was seen queuing or waiting outside to enter the toilet," he explained, adding that the condition inside the toilet was clean, well maintained and comfortable to shower.

However, he said do not expect the toilet to look like one in a hotel.

He also said the food was served three times a day and would be sent to each bed. They even helped the staff there to distribute the food to other beds.

A netizen also questioned why the beds in the centre were so close to one another and why all patients shared the same facilities.

Afifie said that all patients were confirmed positive, asymptomatic and low risk in the centre and they were at a point of being non-infectious.

He said those who were tested positive should not come into close contact with the low risk or asymptomatic patients and everyone in the centre were free to share the same facilities.

He also explained that there are many foreign workers there, however, they are in a different hall.

The foreigners and locals, he explained were separated to ease the registration, monitoring and announcement process.

He added that he felt comfortable in the hall as there were air-conditioners.

"Whenever there is a new patient admitted to the centre, the door will open and there will be a sound effect to it, just like in the movie. I called this door Maze Runner.

"Everyone will cheer at the newcomer, to lift his or her spirits so the newcomer won't feel afraid. What a spirit in here," he said.

He also said there were mobile phone charging stations everywhere in the hall and it was safe to leave the phone to charge at the station, while one should always be vigilant with their belongings.
