KUALA LUMPUR: The government has agreed to form the Emergency Management Technical Committee to ensure that matters related to the emergency will be managed efficiently, said Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Muhyiddin said the committee would be co-chaired by the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Parliament Affairs) Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan and the Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali.
He said this after chairing the first National Security Council (NSC) meeting on the Proclamation of a State of Emergency, which was conducted virtually, with menteris besar and chief ministers today.
The new committee, he said, would include eight permanent members namely the director-general of Public Service,
Treasury secretary-general, Attorney-General, Armed Forces Chief General, Inspector-General of Police, Health director-general, National Security director-general and Head of Cluster.
"The Emergency Conference with the Menteris Besar and Chief Ministers was the first held after the Declaration of a State of Emergency by His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, to discuss the direction of emergency management at the Federal and State levels."
The meeting was held at Bangunan Perdana Putra, Putrajaya where each member was separated in different rooms spread across different floors in the building.
Muhyiddin said setting up the Emergency Management Technical Committee was one of the main agendas of the meeting.
"Among other things, this technical committee will be responsible for, (firstly) monitoring issues related to the implementation and management of emergencies.
Secondly, he said the committee will examine and review emerging issues related to emergencies and recommend solutions.
"It will also coordinate emergency management with relevant parties at the Federal and State levels; and (finally) will lead monitoring and inspection of emergency-related law enforcement at all levels," he said in a statement today.
Muhyiddin also expressed hope that the committee would get all the help and support in order to serve the people effectively during the current state of emergency.
On Tuesday, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah agreed to proclaim a State of Emergency nationwide until Aug 1.
