Kelantan activates 7th Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centre

KOTA BARU: Pusat Tarbiah Islamiah Kelantan (Putik), the seventh Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centre (PKRC) for low-risk patients in Kelantan, is ready for operation.

Kelantan Health director Datuk Dr Zaini Hussin said the centre, located in Pengkalan Chepa, could house at least 150 low-risk Covid-19 patients.

"The centre is the seventh to open in the state after the Kota Baru Municipal Council's Silver Jubilee and Gua Musang Civic Hall, the old Kuala Krai and Jeli hospitals; and the health ministry's Training Institutes in Kota Baru and Tumpat.

"Putik is expected to start operating as soon as possible," he added.

Dr Zaini said apart from the seven centres, six hospitals were used to treat Covid-19 cases in Kelantan.

"As of Monday, more than 500 patients were under quarantine at the hospitals and the three centres," he said.

As of yesterday, Dr Zaini said Kelantan recorded 133 new cases bringing the cumulative figure to 1,429 since last year.

He added that Kota Baru recorded the highest number followed by Gua Musang and Tumpat.

He said Jeli remained under the orange zone while the other nine districts were placed under red zones.

Dr Zaini said 1,382 patients have been discharged while nine people died due to the pandemic in Kelantan so far.
