Enforcement officer narrowly avoids being splashed by hot water

MUAR: Luck was on one Muar Municipal Council (MPM) enforcement officer's side when he managed to avoid an angry man's attempt to splash hot water mixed with oil on him Friday night at Jalan Omar, Parit Jawa, here.

The alleged perpetrator, who is also the husband of a restaurant owner here, is said to be enraged when the officer arrived at 9.30pm to inspect the premises' compliance with the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) during the current Movement Control Order (MCO).

MPM president Mustaffa Kamal Shamsudin said the enforcement officer had noticed the restaurant owner had violated the SOP.

"When the officer was in the kitchen to ask for the owner's husband's details, the 40-year-old man became furious and splashed hot water mixed with oil from a pan on the officer. Luckily, he managed to avoid it.

"The owner was later fined RM1,000 for failing to comply with the SOP under Section 72(1)(F) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342) for allowing customers to dine in," he said when contacted today.

Mustafa said despite being fined, the man remained furious and followed the officer to a petrol station and verbally abused him.

"The MPM enforcement officer subsequently lodged a police report against the man for allegedly obstructing the duties of a civil servant and for attempting to injure an enforcement officer," he said.

Mustaffa reminded the public to not act aggressively toward civil servants on duty.

"Solid cooperation from all parties is crucial in breaking the Covid-19 chain of infection and this can be done by simply following the SOP."
