LAHAD DATU: Philanthropist Ebit Lew's humanitarian mission in Sabah is not only being well-received by locals – his modest disposition is also catching their attention.
During one of his visits yesterday at the St Dominic Catholic Church here, Lew met with the rector, Father Simon Kontou.
"I met Father Simon. Such a kind and gentle person. We talked about the importance of love and the sharing of good deeds. Although we are of different religions, we are family.
"I am touched that he knows me. He said he always sees Ebit Lew helping others. There are a lot of students here waving at me. (My) love to all of them," he said in his Facebook post.
Lew dropped by the church to present 100 food baskets, 10 wheelchairs and face masks.
His posting about the visit garnered 221,000 likes and 26,000 shares as of noon today.
Noah Lujain-Bingkasan, in the comment section, thanked Lew for his willingness to visit and help those affected by the recent floods and Covid-19 pandemic.
Another Facebook user, Mohd Baharum Alum, said Sabahans are united and live peacefully despite different backgrounds.
"We can sit together at the same table and pray according to our religion.
"It is not an obstacle to have good relationships. May ustaz (stay) well in His protection..Aminn."
Apart from the church, Lew also visited the district police station to meet new Muslim converts among members of the force.
In the afternoon, his team helped install an internet hotspot at Kampung Bangingod and handed over tablets and bicycles to 10 students.
Lew and his team members are on a 10-day humanitarian mission to the east coast of Sabah, which began two days ago.
