3,000 Kelantanese fined for flouting MCO SOP since March

KOTA BARU: Nearly 3,000 people in Kelantan have been slapped with compounds for flouting the standard operating procedures (SOP) of the Movement Control Order (MCO) since it was imposed in March, last year.

State police chief Datuk Shafien Mamat said failure to wear face masks in public areas tops the list of violations, followed by not observing physical distancing and failing to record visitor details.

"Police have issued compounds to offenders in the state almost every day, and this shows that we are serious in preventing Covid-19 infection in the community.

"Apart from that, we are also concerned over the (coronavirus) infection among food delivery riders, as we have received a number of reports that many of them do not follow the SOPs.

"Last week alone, seven food delivery riders were compounded for not observing physical distancing while waiting to collect ordered food," he told reporters after monitoring SOP adherence at the Siti Khadijah wet market here today.

Accompanying him during the one-hour inspection was Kota Baru Municipal Council president Tuan Zainal Abidin Tuan Yusuf.

During the visit today, Shafien said he was satisfied, as a majority of the traders adhered to the SOP.

"I could see that customers were trying to avoid standing close to each other and they wore their face masks properly and not by placing them under their chin.

"We need this kind of cooperation to help us break the chain of Covid-19 infection,"he said.
