Rescue operations for passengers of van underway after flyover under construction collapses [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: A search and rescue operation is underway to locate passengers of a factory van believed buried under a pile of debris from a highway flyover in Desa Tun Razak near Terminal Bersepadu Selatan.

The flyover, which is under construction and part of the Sungai Besi-Ulu Klang Elevated Expressway project, collapsed after a lorry carrying an excavator rammed into it.

The factory van was said to be travelling from the city centre when the incident occurred.

The Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department said the Fire and Rescue Department are in the midst of removing the debris. The condition of the victims is yet to be known.

Meanwhile, the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department Operations Centre said it received an emergency call at 5.58pm and a team was immediately deployed to the scene.

A spokesman said 23 personnel from the Hang Tuah, Bandar Tun Razak and Cheras stations are involved in the search and rescue operations.

"Upon arrival at the site, we found the factory van buried under a pile of rubble from the collapsed flyover," he said.

The incident caused massive traffic congestion. Several videos and pictures of the incident have gone viral on social media.

In September last year, a woman escaped death when a concrete slab from the SUKE construction fell and hit her car.

The woman, who was driving along the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2) from Sungai Besi towards Ampang, sustained injuries on her left hand.
