Covid-19: 1,680 new cases

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia recorded 1,680 new Covid-19 cases as of noon today.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, in a statement, said this brings the cumulative number of cases to 311,777 with 21,159 being active cases.

He said Selangor recorded the highest number of cases today with 826 and of this, a total of 737 cases were from clusters and close contact tracing activities.

This, he said was followed by Sarawak with 221 cases and Johor with 139 cases.

As for recoveries, Dr Noor Hisham said 2,548 more patients have recovered today, bringing the total number of Covid-19 recoveries to 289,452.

"Currently, a total of 172 patients are being treated at Intensive Care Units, with 84 requiring breathing support."

As for the country's death toll from the virus, Dr Noor Hisham said it has risen to 1,166 after seven more Covid-19 fatalities were reported to the Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC) as of noon today.

He said all seven fatalities involved Malaysians.
