Authorities say cop did not die after receiving Covid-19 vaccine

IPOH: The Perak Health Department today denied claims that a 58-year-old policeman in Gerik had died due to complications after receiving a second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Its director Datuk Dr Ding Lay Ming when contacted today, briefly said: "Fake news".

Gerik police chief Superintendent Zulkifli Mahmood when contacted also brushed off the matter.

"The policeman is currently receiving treated at the hospital for his illness, nothing to do with complications from the vaccination.

"The viral message is not true, he didn't die... (moreover) because of the Covid-19 vaccine," he said without divulging the illness of his personnel.

The viral message on social media had claimed that the policeman, with the rank of corporal, was taken to the Gerik Hospital due to vaccine complication and was later pronounced dead.

Meanwhile, Perak police chief Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid in a statement said police will take stern action against a Facebook account, known as "Junaidah June" for spreading the fake news.

He confirmed that the policeman, Corporal Rakmin Yusoff, is currently seeking treatment at the Taiping Hospital after suffering from a heart issue.

"The claim is incorrect. He is now reported to be in a stable condition. He will also be referred to the National Heart Institute soon.

"Stern action will be taken against the person for irresponsibly spreading false news about the death of the policeman after receiving the vaccine.

"The family of the policeman was also affected by this," Mior said.

He reminded the public not to believe in unverified information before referring to the related authority.
