248 arrested for flouting SOP

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 248 people were arrested for violating the Movement Control Order's standard operating procedures (SOP) on Saturday.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said activities at entertainment outlets topped the list of offences at 205.

Meanwhile, 17 were caught not practicing physical distancing, 11 failed to record their details prior to entering premises, eight attempted interstate/inter-district travel without permission, four violated the face mask rule and three were nabbed for other offences.

"Of the total, 228 were issued compounds, three were remanded and the remaining 17 were released on bail," he said in a statement today.

Ismail Sabri said the Compliance Operation Task Force had conducted 63,866 inspections nationwide yesterday.

A total of 3,276 compliance teams inspected 4,572 supermarkets, restaurants (5,636), factories (2,043), banks (3,724), government offices (756) and hawker stalls (2,894).

They also checked 2,680 markets/agro-markets, 3,162 places of worship, 1,770 recreational places, 1,371 land transport terminals, 347 water transport terminals and 117 air transport terminals.

On Ops Benteng, Ismail Sabri said 10 illegal immigrants were nabbed with one boat and three land vehicles seized yesterday.

He added that six illegal immigrants were also deported yesterday.

On returnees, he said 908 individuals had arrived via international arrival points on Saturday and were ordered to undergo mandatory quarantine.

Under the mandatory screening programme for foreign workers, he said only one of the 460 screened for Covid-19 yesterday tested positive.

To date, 671,608 foreign workers in the country had been screened with 10,143 confirmed to have contracted the virus.
