Seven districts in Kelantan, five in Sarawak under MCO after spikes in infections

KUALA LUMPUR: Seven districts in Kelantan will come under Movement Control Order (MCO) after the Health Ministry found a 30.5 per cent spike in new infections (756 cases to 1,088 cases) in the state.

The seven districts – Kota Baru, Pasir Mas, Pasir Puteh, Bachok, Machang, Tumpat and Tanah Merah – are currently classified as red zones.

The MCO will take effect from April 16 until April 29.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said nine clusters have emerged in the state in the last 14 days with a high infectivity rate in the community.

Similarly, five districts in Sarawak will also be placed under MCO for two weeks, starting from April 16, following a drastic surge in new infections.

The districts are Kuching, Bintulu, Miri, Sibu and Meradong.

Ismail Sabri said the ministry found a 52 per cent rise in cases (from 2,761 to 4,197 cases) in the state and new clusters were detected every week.

The MCO, he said, will allow the ministry to regulate the movement of people in these localities to stem the transmission of Covid-19.
