Perak Ramadan bazaars may be cancelled if SOP not followed [NSTTVV]

IPOH: The Perak government will cancel Ramadan bazaars in the state if the people continue to disregard the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in place.

State Housing, Local Government and Tourism Committee chairman Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohamed Radzi said the authorities had received a number of complaints on SOP breaches.

"We have been receiving complaints on SOP non-compliance since the bazaars were opened two days ago.

"People only seem to abide by the SOP when they were about to enter the bazaars, but tend to forget the rules later.

"If the situation persists and out of control, we will not hesitate to cancel the bazaars," Nolee Ashilin told reporters after launching People's Housing Project's (PPR) Community Library at Pangsapuri Seri Kepayang (PSK) here today.

She also reminded traders' associations organising the bazaars to ensure strict compliance on SOP especially throughout the fasting month.

"We will not hesitate to issue warnings to the organisers. Local authorities too (must) play their role in managing the situation.

"We are still not satisfied with the current compliance rate as we keep receiving complaints at certain locations. We need to prevent clusters emerging during Ramadan."
