PM: Govt to review MCO in some states

KUALA LUMPUR: The government will review the Movement Control Order (MCO) imposed in states with a spike in Covid-19 cases, said Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

In a statement today, Muhyiddin said this review was important to ensure the standard operating procedures (SOPs) were being enforced and other actions taken were effective in curbing the spread of Covid-19.

"The government has been using the Hotspots Identification for Dynamic Engagement early warning system to identify areas or premises at risk of causing Covid-19 transmissions.

"These premises would be directed to close if it is detected that a large group of people visiting the premise were Covid-19 positive," he said in the statement today.

This approach, he said, was in line with the government's decision to control and curb the spread of Covid-19 infections in a targeted manner.

He added that monitoring was done daily through this system to identify high-risk areas frequented by the public.

"I urge the public to continue adhering to the SOPs and avoid being in confined and crowded areas to protect themselves, their families and the community from Covid-19."
