Bersatu to lodge report with MACC, police after MPs back Anwar's govt

KUALA LUMPUR: Bersatu will lodge a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the police after four of its members of parliament (MPs) pledged support for the unity government.

Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said there was evidence of intimidation and preferential treatment with regard to development allocations.

"We will lodge a report with the police and MACC, within a day or two, after we have gathered all the related information," he told reporters after the party's top leadership meeting last night.

Muhyiddin said that Gua Musang MP (Mohd Azizi Abu Naim) was recently promised a favour at a state-level party meeting; however, he declined.

"But after three days, he expressed his support (for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim). We suspect that something is going on that violates the rules."

As for Kuala Kangsar MP Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid, Muhyiddin said there were elements of intimidation with corruption charges.

He added that the party stood firm in its struggle and would not tolerate such action from its members.

During the press conference, Muhyiddin also said that the party would refer two of its MPs, who recently expressed support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to the party's disciplinary board.

He said the board would meet soon to determine the punishment for Mohd Azizi and Jeli MP Zahari Kechik.
