3 more villages to go under EMCO

KUALA LUMPUR: Three villages in the sub-district of Bunut Susu in Pasir Mas, Kelantan will be placed under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) for two weeks from Sunday (May 9) to May 22.

The affected villages are Kampung Paya Ular, Kampung Tualang and Kampung Bechah Palas.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the decision to impose the EMCO was made following risk assessments conducted among several agencies under the MCO Technical Committee and on the advice of the Health Ministry.

"The Health Ministry detected a surge in the number of cases and the Covid-19 positivity rate at the three localities is high.

"To date, a total 120 positive cases were detected from the three villages. From the total cases reported, 52 infections were found in Kampung Bechah Palas followed by Kampung Paya Ular (42) and Kampung Tualang (26)," the Senior Defence Minister said in a statement today.

The implementation of the EMCO, he said, will enable early case detection and subsequently prevent the virus from spreading to nearby villages.

Ismail Sabri also announced the end of the EMCO at three localities after an assessment conducted by the Health Ministry showed a drop in the number of Covid-19 cases and the coronavirus clusters were under control.

The EMCO at Sekolah Menengah Sains Banting in Kuala Langat, Selangor, that was supposed to be enforced until today (May 7), he said, will end according to schedule.

Meanwhile, the EMCO at Kampung Muhibbah Raya, Tawau in Sabah and Maahad Tahfiz Sains Tanah Merah in Kelantan, that were supposed to be enforced until May 8 and May 16 respectively, will end ahead of scheduled, also today (May 7).
