Beef up SOP compliance operations, Home Ministry tells enforcement agencies

KUALA LUMPUR: The Home Ministry has called on all enforcement agencies including the police, Immigration and Prisons Departments; Anti-Drug Agency, Malaysian Border Security Agency, Esscom and Rela to increase SOP compliance operations in light of the rising Covid-19 cases.

The ministry ordered the agencies to take stern action against those who violated the Covid-19 prevention measures and Standard Operating Procedures.

In a statement, the ministry said it has received reports and complaints of insufficient monitoring and complaints on inadequate SOP compliance operations carried out by enforcement agencies during the Movement Control Order set by the government.

"Thus, the ministry has issued directives to these agencies to beef-up enforcement operations to ensure the spread of Covid-19 can be more effectively curbed, ahead of the Hari Raya Aidil Fitri celebrations next week," it said.

The ministry said apart from increasing the number of personnel and operational strength at roadblocks (SJR), strict monitoring will also be carried out at public transportation hubs such as KTM Komuter, LRT, MRT, ERL, KL Monorail and via e-hailing services, to stop individuals from traveling across states or districts.

"The Ministry calls on all parties to continue to comply with the SOPs set by the Government and to cooperate by following all the prevention measures so more lives won't be lost during this Covid-19 pandemic.

"Since the MCO was implemented, a total 100,980 enforcement agency personnel and officers from various agencies under the Ministry have been assigned to Covid-19 related duties," it said.
