No more Ramadan, Aidilfitri bazaars in MCO areas

KUALA LUMPUR: All Aidilfitri and Ramadan bazaars at areas placed under the Movement Control Order (MCO) will be closed starting this Monday.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob also said all Ramadan bazaars flagged as potential Covid-19 hotspots by the Hotspots Identification for Dynamic Engagement (HIDE) system will be closed for three days with immediate effect.

The Ramadan bazaars identified by the HIDE system as potential Covid-19 hotspots included those in Taman Putra Perdana in Puchong and Presint 3 in Putrajaya.

Meanwhile, Ismail assured that the country's food supply was stable and adequate.

He said the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry had conducted 702 checks on 11 types of items at 518 retailers, 154 wholesalers and 30 manufacturers.

"The ministry had also done 1,929 special checks and it was found that all premises had adhered to the Covid-19 standard operating procedure (SOP)," he said in a statement today.

On SOP compliance, Ismail said 151 people were fined on Friday for failing to do self-registration before entering premises, 80 people did not wear face masks, 28 fined for indulging in activities at entertainment centres, 25 people failed to observe physical distancing and 48 others were fined for other reasons.

"In total, 331 people were compounded and one was remanded."

Ismail said all 1,069 people who had arrived at international entrances yesterday were currently observing the mandatory quarantine.

"The authorities have also arrested 10 illegal immigrants who tried to enter our borders and seized one land vehicle and one boat," he said.
