PM: Govt serious about youth empowerment, to set up youth advisory group

KUALA LUMPUR: A prime ministerial youth advisory group is on the cusp of being set up.

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the selection process for the candidates is now being finalised and will be announced soon.

"I hope that more youths can be involved in the formulation of holistic development strategies for the country through the platform."

According to Muhyiddin, the formation of the group was suggested by the Malaysian Youth Council to empower young people.

"This would further ensure youths at the grassroots have a voice that can be heard and they can contribute to the formulation of government policy," he said in his National Youth Day speech today.

Muhyiddin also said there was also a focus on volunteerism as a bid to realise the national community empowerment agenda.

This was illustrated through the participation of youth in programmes such as Malaysia Vaccine Support Volunteers(MyVac) and the Rakan Muda Sports Bubble.

Muhyiddin said the marshalling of youth under MyVac through the ministries of Youth and Sports, and the Science, Technology and Innovation, helps lighten the load on frontliners throughout the vaccination drive.

Up to May 3, 10,500 people MyVac volunteers while 5,360 have registered as volunteeers under Rakan Muda Sports Bubble with 80 per cent of the groups being made up of those aged 15 to 40.

"This participation is proof of their contribution to the government to end the Covid-19 outbreak and recover the economy."
